Revenge makes for such a wonderful plot device. It brings characters to their very limits, testing how far they are willing to go to achieve retribution for the wrongs against them.
But it’s better when it comes later in a story, rather than the beginning. Because then you can see how the character was BEFORE their world twists around that singular focus. You get an appreciation for who they are as a character, whereas in many situations where Revenge is the main plot point in the beginning of the story, you only really get a partial taste of the character outside that goal.
